646f9e108c Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, and Egon Spengler are three scientists at Columbia University in New York City. When their grant expires, the guys are fired and they go into businessa ghost extermination company called "Ghostbusters". Their first customer is orchestra cello player Dana Barrett, who was scared out of her apartment on the 22nd floor of a high rise apartment building on Central Park West. It seems that Dana's neighbor, Louis Tully, is also being affected by the strange happenings in the apartment building. Armed with proton guns, the Ghostbusters become wildly popular, and they are joined by Winston Zeddmore, who is looking for a job with good pay. Overzealous Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) agent Walter Peck thinks the Ghostbusters are frauds, and he has the Ghostbusters put in jail. Peck is forced to believe the Ghostbusters when New York City is put under siege by an ancient Sumerian God named Gozer the Gozerian, who is channeled through the apartment building that Dana and Louis live in, and the mayor has no choice but to let the Ghostbusters out of jail to face Gozer.
Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz and Egon work at the University where they delve into the paranormal and fiddle with many unethical experiments on the students. As they are kicked out of the University do they really understand their knowledge of the paranormal and go into business for themselves. Under the new snazzy business name of 'Ghostbusters', and living in the old firehouse building they work out of, they are called to rid New York City of paranormal phenomenon at everyone's whim…. for a price. They make national pressthe media thinks and pressures everybody the Ghostbusters are the cause of it all. Thrown in jail by the EPA, the mayor takes a chance and calls on them to help save the city. Unbeknownst to all, a long dead Gozer worshiper (Evo Shandor) erected downtown apartment building is the cause of all the paranormal activity. They find out the building could resurrect the ancient Hittite god, Gozer, and bring an end to all of humanity. Who are you gonna call to stop this terrible world-ending menace?
Since my Nan is a proper ghost buster, without the cheesy machines, I know quite a bit about ghost busting, and this is not it! The ghosts are nothing like what real ghosts are, and there is no way you can bust a ghost using those machines! The camera angles in the movie were OK, but the special effects were the worst! When they were running along the street with the steam coming out the machine, that was so cheap! Also, 'The Marshmallow Man'?!? What the hell is that?! I think even I could take that film and make it more believable. We actually have to write a review for our English homework, but I lost half my notes! That is why i'm on here, to jog my memory, but then i thought 'let's tell these people how bad the movie was technically!' The acting was better than anything else in it, because it was quite a good cast, but i still wouldn't recommend this movie!
This was a terrific movie, perfect for fans of John Landis type humor. Reitman really did a superb job here,did Murray, Ackroyd, and Ramis. The science-fiction parody and hillarious dialogue blow away all these stupid banal pseudocomedies of today, and renew one's faith in intelligent filmmaking. Sure it was silly at times, but most of the movie was a home run. Who could forget the Ghostbusters' first assignment, or when Rick Moranis gives a party for his accounting clients (a truly hillarious scene). Its no surprise that this was one of the top selling movies in history and a total blockbuster during the summer of 1984. I can't imagine anyone not having seen it, but its on comedy central and network television. Great for all ages.
With his deadpan delivery and snide quips, Murray more than holds his own amid the myriad state-of-the-art special effects.

Venkman in particular was accused of using his position with the Psychology Departmentsome kind of "dodge or hustle." The slime that was found in the library and other places that were haunted by ghosts is described"ectoplasmic residue," a substance that is supposed to exist on the etheric (or spiritual) plane and can remain behind in the wake of a spiritual, i.e., ghostly, manifestation. The story provides no further explanationto why it exists or how it seeps into the realm of the living. Perhaps it signifies amniotic fluid, in that spirits emulate birth when traversing the etheric plane.<br/><br/>It was sold by the jar in toy stores to children. Zuul the Gatekeeper, Gozer the Sumerian god of Destruction, and Vinz Clortho the Keymaster were all made up for the movie. However, following the release of Ghostbusters, fans made up a number of legacies, rituals and mythologies about them, none of which have any true history. The song is "Magic" by Mick Smiley. However, the answer to this question is frequently disputed by those complaining that the start of "Magic"heard on the soundtrack album sounds nothing like the track used in the film. This is because the film uses only the second half of the song, which sounds much different from the first half. Start playing the track at about 2:20 in to hear itit was in the film. Gozer gave the Ghostbusters a choice of the form Gozer will become"The Destroyer". If The Ghostbusters thought and had chosen for example: The Joker from Batman, Gozer would reappear in that form to destroy them. The Ghostbusters had to clear their minds and not think of anything or anyone that would appear and destroy them. But Ray had thought of the Mr. Stay Puft Marshmellow Man and Gozer reappearedthe form chosen by Ray, which Ray believed couldn't possibly destroy them,kids would toast marshmellows at camp fires and The Ghostbusters used their proton packs to zap at Mr. Stay Puft/Gozer and set Mr. Stay Puft/Gozer on fire. Ray's remark to Louis in the movie is "You have been a participant in the biggest interdimensional cross rip since the Tunguska blast of 1909!" First, the writers got the year wrong; the event occurred on June 30th, 1908. Ray's talking about a possible meteor strike in southern Central Russia that had a huge blast area. After climbing up the 22 flights to the penthouse and going out on the roof, the Ghostbusters find that Dana (<a href="/name/nm0000244/">Sigourney Weaver</a>) and Louis (<a href="/name/nm0001548/">Rick Moranis</a>) have been transformed into Zuul and Vinz Clortho, two huge demonic dogs guarding Gozer's gateway. Slowly, Gozer comes sauntering through the gate. Ray orders her to stop all supernatural activity and return to her own realm. Gozer asks him if he is a god, and Ray stupidly replies, "No," so Gozer tosses all four of them across the roof, almost knocking them off the ledge. The Ghostbusters neutralize her with their proton packs, and Gozer disappears, but her voice can be heard ordering them to choose the form she is to take in order to destroy the world. Everyone tries to clear their minds, but an image of the Stay Puft marshmallow man pops into Ray's head. In that giant form, the Traveler comes walking down the street, laying wreck to everything around her. Egon suggests that they may be able to close the gate by zapping it with their proton packs and allowing the particle streams to cross. The plan is successful, Mr Stay Puft is reduced to great gobs of melted marshmallow crème, and Dana and Louis are released from their dog bodies. In the final scenes, the Ghostbusters emerge from the building to the cheers of the crowd, Dana kisses Venkman, and they all drive off in Ecto 1. For the UK television release, approximately six scenes were shortened and swearwords removed.
